UFC 190: Rousey vs Correia Main Card Betting Picks

By MMA Fights

UFC 190Ronda Rousey is back in the Octagon defending her belt this Saturday.  This time she’s going into enemy territory to take on Brazilian Bethe Correia in Rio de Janeiro.  That said I don’t think it’s going to matter where this fight takes place.  The only reason Correia is getting this title shot is because she beat a couple of Rousey’s roommates and talked her way to a title shot in a division that has been decimated by Rousey.  It’s one way to get a shot, but it doesn’t make Correia a competitive fight for Rousey.

Luckily for us we have a few other interesting fights on this card.  The co-main event has Shogun Rua against Little Nog, while Struve vs Big Nog and Bigfoot Silva vs Sao Palelei are going to be very exciting heavyweight tilts.

On top of placing bets I’m getting into the DraftKings.com UFC fantasy as well.  This week they have a $3 contest with $100,000 in guaranteed cash to be won!  Rousey is $12200 and should be lock on every single team in my opinion.

Ronda Rousey vs Bethe Correia

This fight isn’t even going to be close.  I watched Correia’s last fight against Shayna Baszler and was less than impressed.  Of Correia’s 3 wins inside the Octagon she has beaten some of the easiest opponents on the UFC roster.  She beat Kedzie (who had lost 3 fights in a row prior) by split decision, then beat Jessamyn Duke by decision.  Duke has since lost her next two fights.  Baszler has now lost 3 fights in a row by finishes, with the Correia fight smack in the middle.  Correia hasn’t even fought a fighter that is ranked by the UFC.

Correia will be out of her depth in this fight.  The only question will be when Rousey finishes.

Little Nog vs Shogun Rua

This is an interesting fight, but it’s not going to have much affect on the Light Heavyweight Division.  Shogun is coming off of two knockout losses (Henderson & Saint Preux) and 4 losses in his last 5 fights, so he’s definitely past his prime.  That said at 33 years old there may be a bit of time for a career resurgence.  Little Nog has had a bit of a resurgence to his career with his decision win over Rashad Evans in 2013.  Since then he just had one fight last year, which was a knockout loss to Anthony Johnson and we all saw how quickly that fight was over.

Both of these men are past their prime, but Little Nog has only lost to the top guys in the division over the past 5 years (AJ, Phil Davis and Ryan Bader).  I actually like his chances to get one more win before his 40th birthday.  Shogun’s chin is gone and if Little Nog can land the right punch he could pull off the upset.

Big Nog (Minotauro) vs Stefan Struve

I was surprised to see that Struve was a favourite in this fight.  He is only 27 years old so his best days may be in front of him, but he’s taken so much damage in his young career that his chin is definitely suspect.  He was finished early by Overeem in his last fight and he hasn’t earned a finish himself since 2012.

Big Nog is on a 2 fight losing streak, but he’s battled very tough opposition in Roy Nelson and Fabricio Werdum in his last 2 fights.  He beat Dave Herman 3 years ago, but that doesn’t mean much.

I could see either one of these guys getting knocked out in this fight.  I’m just not a big believer in Stefan Struve and I think if he gets caught with basically anything from Big Nog it could be lights out.

Bigfoot Silva vs Sao Palelei

Another heavyweight fight that is going to be fun to watch even though it will likely be very short.  I think Bigfoot’s days are numbered.  At heavyweight when you fight the best guys in the world for so long and take so much damage it’s a lot harder to stay conscious for a full fight.  Palelei is older, but he has only been knocked out once in his career and that was way back in 2007.  This fight will end in a knockout and my money is on Bigfoot once again lying unconscious on the mat like he did against Mir in February.  Bigfoot has been knocked out in 5 of his last 8 fights and that takes its toll on a big man.
