UFC Fight Night 51: Bigfoot Silva vs Arlovski – Betting Odds and Picks

By MMA Fights

Last week’s UFC Fight Night 50 was an awesome show.  I had picks on 4 of the fights and only hit 1 so it did hurt my record quite a bit, but the submissions and knockouts on display were worthy of a PPV card, especially when compared to the Dillashaw PPV from the week before.  This weekends Fight Night card isn’t quite as good as last week’s, but the Bigfoot Silva vs Arlovski fight is still very interesting and will affect the heavyweight division.

2014 Record: 41-25 for +11.26 units.

Bigfoot Silva vs Andrei Arlovski

Andrei ArlovskiAntonio Silva is currently ranked #4 in the heavyweight division and I for one think that is too high of a ranking for him.  Too much weight went into his win over Alistair Overeem in early 2013.  He didn’t look good throughout that fight before managing to knockout out Overeem.  At the time Overeem was a huge prospect coming over from some big wins in Strikeforce, but having lost 3 of his 4 last UFC fights by knockout it’s pretty obvious that Overeem just doesn’t have the chin to compete in the heavyweight division.  Silva’s recent losses haven’t been horrible, he has two first round knockout losses to Cain Velasquez since May of 2012 with another KO by Cormier in 2011.  These are top fighters in the UFC though and Silva shouldn’t be in their category.  He most recently fought to a draw with Mark Hunt, who I think is more his level.

Arlovski on the other hand came back to the UFC and won a controversial split decision over Brendan Schaub in a very uneventful fight.  He still has a lot to prove and a win over Silva would give him a good bump in the rankings.

Silva defeated Arlovski via decision in Strikeforce back in May of 2010, so he will be looking for some revenge.  This was a down swing in Arlovski’s career when he lost 4 fights in a row, Silva being the only loss that wasn’t by knockout.
